Brock Purdy: Mac Jones starts at Giants, Purdy questionable

THE FACT. San Francisco will start Mac Jones at quarterback against the Giants on Sunday with Brock Purdy listed as questionable, per NFL.com's Nick Shook, who reported coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday that Purdy still has a chance to be available. CBS Sports reported Purdy re-aggravated turf toe and was limited in practice all week.
THE VERDICT. Start Mac Jones over Purdy in redraft and treat Purdy as a bench stash until he practices fully. Do not bench the San Francisco pass catchers over the quarterback change; the offense keeps functioning either way. Purdy is unplayable in DFS at any salary while he is the backup. Dynasty managers hold; this is a lingering toe, not a structural injury.

Twenty-plus years of fantasy and the lesson that keeps repeating: a backup quarterback who moves the ball without finishing drives quietly costs you a week. Jones is 4-2 in six starts and averaging about 281 passing yards, but that has come with 6 touchdowns against 4 picks and QB23 per-game value. That is yardage, not scoring. I would stream a lesser name in a better spot before starting him. And I am not stashing Purdy in dynasty either. Six missed games out of eight on a toe he has already re-aggravated is a sell window, not a hold.
