Ryan Miller: Patriots elevate receiver with Brown out

THE FACT. The Patriots elevated wide receiver Ryan Miller from the practice squad for Sunday against Miami, announced Saturday and reported by NESN's Ryleigh Tupper and by Athlon Sports, which cited MassLive's Mark Daniels. A.J. Brown was ruled out with a knee issue, and NESN lists Romeo Doubs and Mack Hollins on injured reserve.

THE VERDICT. The move is confirmation of how thin this receiver room is for one week. NESN lists DeMario Douglas, Efton Chism III and Kyle Williams as the other healthy receivers on the 53, and Brown's targets have to go somewhere. Redraft: Douglas is the cheapest way to buy into that volume. Miller, with 17 career catches, is a DFS dart at best, so fade him in cash games. Dynasty: no action.

Calling Douglas the cheap way in is where I go the other direction. He is already the priced-up name in that room after two 20-point games, and a 15.4 percent target share on a 64 percent route rate is a known quantity, not a discount. Chism is the one I want. He actually out-produces Douglas per route, 1.6 yards to 1.5, and he has held a real role before, five catches on six looks against the Raiders. Against a Miami secondary giving up 8.1 yards a pass attempt, I would rather pay down and take the leverage.
