Jer'Zhan Newton: Commanders open return window from IR

THE FACT. Washington designated defensive tackle Jer'Zhan Newton to return from injured reserve Wednesday, opening his practice window, per NFL.com, which lists a pec injury. SB Nation's Scott Bair reported the same move Wednesday and noted Newton must be activated inside the window or revert to season-ending injured reserve, with coach Dan Quinn crediting his rehab work.

THE VERDICT. The window opening is not an activation, so do not drop a producing defensive lineman for him yet. IDP: a stash in deep leagues with IR slots, nothing more until Washington puts him on the active roster. Interior rushers rarely spike tackle volume on return weeks, and the Commanders have Javon Kinlaw unlikely to play Sunday against Philadelphia, so Newton's snap path exists if he is activated. Redraft and DFS: no play.
