Davis Allen: two touchdown catches in first half

THE FACT. Los Angeles Rams tight end Davis Allen caught two touchdown passes in the first half at Las Vegas on Sunday, the second putting the Rams up 14-3 with just over ten minutes left in the second quarter, per NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk. The Rams' official site separately posted one of the scores as a three-yard catch from Matthew Stafford in the same Week 7 game. The game was still in progress at publication, so his final line is not yet set.

THE VERDICT. Two scores before halftime from a tight end sitting on most waiver wires is the clearest streaming signal of the day. Waiver Wire: add now, 5% FAAB, and go in knowing touchdown spikes like this rarely repeat week to week. Redraft: treat him as a bye-week and injury-week streamer rather than a locked starter until the target volume backs up the scoring. Dynasty: hold off, one half does not move his standing. DFS: he was a leverage play today and will be priced up next week, so fade at the new number.

Twenty-plus years of chasing touchdown spikes taught me to check route rate before the box score. Allen walked into Sunday with nine targets on 54 routes, roughly a 31 percent route share, while Higbee has been out there for 64 percent of pass plays and 29 targets. Rotowire still had Allen third on that tight end depth chart. Two scores in a half doesn't change who Stafford hunts on third down. I'd keep the FAAB and spend the roster spot on volume instead. Even as a bye-week plug, that's a prayer, not a plan.
