J.J. McCarthy: Giants expected to start him past bye

THE FACT. The Giants are expected to keep McCarthy as their starting quarterback beyond their Week 8 bye, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday, per NBC Sports. New York named McCarthy the starter for Sunday's game at Houston after practice last Wednesday, going with him over Jameis Winston while Jaxson Dart is out for the season with a knee injury, per CBS New York.

THE VERDICT. Redraft: this is not a one-week audition, which is what matters if you stream quarterbacks. He is not a must-start on reputation — let him prove it at Houston first. Dynasty: this is the real story. A young quarterback handed the job past the bye gives you a half-season sample to evaluate, and settled quarterback play lifts the floor of every pass catcher in that offense. Buy McCarthy now in dynasty if his price still reflects a backup.
