IDP Rookie Sleepers 2026: The Three Who Start Week 1 and Seven More to Stash

Rookie defenders are the cheapest asset in IDP because the market prices them on draft capital and reputation, while the format pays them for snaps. A first-round edge rusher rotating on thirty-five per cent of downs is worthless to you. A second-round off-ball linebacker playing every snap on a bad defense is a weekly starter. Here is where the 2026 class actually stands going into Week 1, sorted by whether they are on the field.

STARTING WEEK 1. ARVELL REESE, LINEBACKER, GIANTS. The fifth overall pick opens at inside linebacker alongside Tremaine Edmunds, against Dallas on Sunday night with a 48.5 total and New York getting three points. A rookie off-ball linebacker with a full-time role in a high-total divisional game is the single best rookie IDP situation on the board, and he is available in the large majority of leagues. Add him before Monday regardless of what he does this weekend.

DILLON THIENEMAN, SAFETY, BEARS. A first-round pick opening at strong safety, at Carolina, in a 47.5-point game with Chicago favoured by three. Xavier Woods is questionable with a groin injury in the same secondary, which could push Thieneman's workload higher still. Rookie safeties are the most reliable rookie IDP production there is, because tackle volume requires snaps rather than experience, and he has the snaps.

RUEBEN BAIN JR., LINEBACKER, BUCCANEERS. A mid-first-round pick opening as a starter at Cincinnati, in the highest-total game of the week at 50.5 with Tampa Bay getting 3.5. He is listed at linebacker on the depth chart but rushes the passer, so check your league's position eligibility before you slot him - in most formats he will be defensive line. The environment is excellent either way: a road underdog in a fifty-point game sees a lot of snaps.

ONE INJURY AWAY - STASH THESE. CJ ALLEN, LINEBACKER, COLTS. Behind an Indianapolis linebacker group where Austin Ajiake is already questionable with a hamstring injury, on a defense hosting Baltimore in a 47.5-point game. The single best stash on this list. DAVID BAILEY, LINEBACKER, JETS. Joseph Ossai has been ruled out with a foot injury and Tyler Baron is out with a knee injury, which thins the room in front of him immediately.

CASHIUS HOWELL, DEFENSIVE END, BENGALS. Shemar Stewart is doubtful with a knee injury, which opens rotational pass-rush snaps in the highest-total game on the slate. JAKE GOLDAY, LINEBACKER, VIKINGS. Behind Blake Cashman and Eric Wilson, both of whom carry heavy workloads - a good room to inherit from. T.J. PARKER, LINEBACKER, BILLS. MALACHI LAWRENCE, LINEBACKER, COWBOYS, in a room where Marist Liufau is on injured reserve with a forearm injury. All four are deep-league stashes rather than immediate adds.

NOT AVAILABLE. BUD CLARK, SAFETY, SEAHAWKS, is on injured reserve with an ankle injury and cannot help you. Drop him in redraft; hold in dynasty.

THE TEST TO APPLY ON MONDAY. Every rookie on this page is a bet on role, and role is published the day after the game in the form of a defensive snap percentage. Above eighty-five per cent means he is a full-time player and you should be starting him within two weeks. Between fifty and eighty-five means he is a situational piece and his production will be unpredictable all season. Below fifty means he is not an IDP asset yet no matter where he was drafted. Do not let a good box score in a thirty-per-cent snap share convince you otherwise - that is the most expensive mistake in the format.
