Brian Thomas Jr.: Coen blames 12 personnel for 23 snaps

THE FACT. Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said Tuesday that Brian Thomas Jr. played just 23 snaps in Week 3 because Jacksonville leaned into more 12 personnel and wanted Josh Cameron on the field for specific roles, per NBC Sports reporter Rivers McCown.

THE VERDICT. Redraft: do not panic-sell. A head coach publicly owning the personnel decision is the tell that this was scheme, not a benching, and a receiver of this caliber does not stay at 23 snaps. Keep starting him as a WR2 and expect the snap count to climb back toward normal. Dynasty: this is a buy-low window if a nervous manager in your league is shopping him. DFS: fade him this week until the snap share confirms, then get back in at a discount.

Respect the site, but I've been playing this game since the Faulk era and the scheme-not-a-benching line is exactly what coaches say right before nothing changes. Thomas played 23 of 62 snaps in Week 3 and he's at 42 percent for the season, with a sixth-round rookie matching him snap for snap. Seven catches, 88 yards through three games. That's a bench stash you hold on talent, not a WR2 you start on faith. Consensus has him around WR48 at Cincinnati, and that feels about right until the snaps actually come back.
