Kerby Joseph: practices second straight day off PUP

THE FACT. Detroit Sports Nation reported Thursday that Lions safety Kerby Joseph was on the practice field for a second straight day, wearing a compression sleeve on his left leg, with his 21-day return window having opened Wednesday. CBS Sports reported Wednesday that the session was his first practice of the season after more than a year away from game action.

THE VERDICT. Dan Campbell is building Joseph's workload back gradually, and a Thursday appearance does not lock in a Sunday role against Minnesota. IDP: do not drop him, but keep him on your bench until Detroit clears him for a game and his snap count settles. Dynasty owners should take encouragement from a back-to-back practice week arriving at all. IDP managers who need a safety this week should look elsewhere.

Respectfully, the hold is the part I'd argue with. Joseph was limited both Wednesday and Thursday, and Campbell is still talking about advancing him over the next week or so, which usually means a game role two or three weeks out at best. His IDP value has always leaned on takeaways, too. He led the league with nine picks in 2024 but still finished that whole season with only 83 total tackles. A ball-hawk coming off a year away from football is not where I'd spend a bench spot in a 20-man league. Deeper formats, fine. Anything shallow, I'd cut and chase snaps.
