Jake Tonges: 49ers tight end out for the season (knee)

THE FACT. Tight end Jake Tonges needs season-ending surgery on his right knee after damaging the MCL and more in the Week 1 opener, coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday, per NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco. San Francisco placed Tonges on injured reserve and promoted Brayden Willis from the practice squad to take the roster spot.
THE VERDICT. Tonges is a drop in every format, redraft and dynasty alike. The real read here is the room behind George Kittle, who was limited again in Wednesday's practice as he works back from an Achilles injury. Willis becomes the only insurance policy if Kittle misses time, which makes him a deep-league contingency stash and nothing more right now. Leave him on the wire in 12-team leagues and fade the 49ers tight end spot in DFS until Kittle's workload settles.
