THE FACT. San Francisco running back Christian McCaffrey did not practice Wednesday, listed on the 49ers' Week 2 injury report as a rest day rather than an injury, per 49ers Webzone's reporting of the team report. Defensive end Nick Bosa and left tackle Trent Williams were held out for the same reason ahead of Sunday's home game against Miami.
THE VERDICT. This is maintenance, not a scare. Wednesday rest days for veterans are routine in San Francisco and carry no signal about Sunday. Redraft: he stays a locked-in RB1. DFS: no reason to adjust exposure. Revisit only if the designation changes to an actual injury later in the week.
Start him, sure, but 'nothing changes' isn't quite right for me. The rest day isn't the worry. His touchdown line is. McCaffrey was stopped at the 1 nine times last year, tied for the most in the league, and scored on only three of those drives. Juszczyk and Kittle each took one from him. A back getting scheduled rest days is exactly the guy whose short-yardage snaps get managed. I'm keeping him in the lineup and shaving his TD projection.
